Fake Lawn: To Buy or Not to Buy?

July 16, 2013 | Author: | Posted in Goods and Services

Artificial grass lawns are difficult to decide on whether to purchase or not. They are a hefty investment, and require decisive planning and prediction on future trends on whether they are worth the money to invest in or to continue to pay the landscaper to come a couple of times every week to mow and hedge the front yard.

However, artificial lawns provide many positive outcomes that may weigh more heavily in your favor of deciding whether to purchase one or not. For example, did you know that having a fake lawn can save you up to 550 gallons of water each year? Not only does that help your water bill (and provide immediate return on your investment), it is also environmentally friendly! In addition, if you live in a part of the world that has low access to water and is very dry, this lawn provides a beautiful view all year round, regardless of a water shortage, and can last up to 10 years in a desert or high temperature area.

A fake lawn also saves you, the homeowner, time and, yet again, money, on landscaping and upkeep. Artificial lawns require no watering, no mowing, and no redesigning- just planning and effort. Thus, no more landscape artist, or effort on your own part to weed the garden- it is already done for you.

Now, there are some downsides to having an artificial grass lawn. One would be the potential of harmful chemicals, such as lead, being used in the production of the fake grass. This could be harmful to your animals, children, and family, unless the company you have chosen has certification showing that no use of lead has been used in production of their lawns. Another downside of having a fake lawn is that there is a difference in the feel and appearance of the lawn. This can be seen as a con or a pro, depending on what your preference is.

So those are the main arguments. Fake lawns are expensive, and do not present the same image as a real lawn does. However, if you live in a part of the world that perpetually kills everything when it grows due to heat, or there isn’t a lot of green around, artificial grass might be the best bet for you. And although these lawns don’t feel or smell the same as a real lawn, you will save money on landscaping and time on keeping up the lawn by purchasing a fake lawn- and your lawn will still look just as beautiful and well kept as if you had real grass instead of artificial grass.

There are a lot more pros than cons when it comes to purchasing a fake lawn- but it depends on the user if it is worth investing in or not.
